MetalPaper enables your product to standout from the crowd!

Its bold striking appearance enforces your advertising messages; substantially increasing its perceived value and ultimately improves the performance of your brand! MetalPaper provides designers numerous eye-catching new design opportunities which enable them to dramatically differentiate print & packaging from the competition.
MetalPaper is a brand new sandwich structure material made of a fibrous card or board, which is laminated with a very highly reflective metallised polyester film. The laminated surface of the card / board is the very smoothest of cast coated surfaces. The metallised polyester film which constitutes the top layer is perfectly metalized and glass clear. The result is the highly reflective MetalPaper surface.
Coloured MetalPaper is coloured within the sandwich. Consequently the upper surface used for printing is very robust and scratch resistant. Satin and some of the other special effects are produced by applying an additional lamination layer over a base “High Gloss Mirror” product.
The MetalPaper product we have today is a result of years of development by our specialised team. All component parts of MetalPaper are sourced from European manufactures. As a direct consequence of this development and the materials used, today’s MetalPaper has a much smoother finish and consistently delivers a very high gloss with a much higher level of reflection than any conventionally metalized card or board.

"High Gloss Mirror" or "Satin" for my design?

The MetalPaper product we have today is a result of years of development by our specialised team. All component parts of MetalPaper are sourced from European manufactures. As a direct consequence of this development and the materials used, today’s MetalPaper has a much smoother finish and consistently delivers a very high gloss with a much higher level of reflection than any conventionally metalized card or board.

"High Gloss Mirror" delivers the eye catching high gloss and the highly reflective mirror effects. On every occasion where attention is desired, "High Gloss Mirror" is therefore the right choice, e.g. Point of sale, books, packaging, outstanding Mailings, VIP-Invitations or trendy image folders.

"Satin" on the other hand offers a smooth and elegant appearance. Noble understatement and luxurious impression are the important factors here. In addition, the matt surface has a high level of scuff-resistance against scratching or fingerprints. "Satin" is often preferred for: annual reports, business cards, packaging of premium products and image brochures.

Can I print onto MetalPaper?

Yes, printing onto the metallic side is possible by the means of

  • Screen printing (solvent and UV)
  • UV - offset printing
  • Conventional offset printing with foil-inks (limited, only practicable for small runs)
  • Some digital printers (e.g. Roland Versa UV-LEC-330, MGi Metor)

The reverse side of MetalPaper consists of a smooth white paper which is uncoated. It enables a quality print and is suitable for the inner pages of book covers, brochures etc. Printing onto the reverse side of MetalPaper can be done with conventional offset inks or with any of the above mentioned techniques. With MetalPaper varieties such as Satin, Soft Touch and Surface Textures the actual printing can be done before the surface finish is applied (by us) if required. In some instantances this is highly recommendable. Please contact us for further consultation.

Can I use decorative print finishing with MetalPaper?

Yes, the classical decorative print finishing of both sides of MetalPaper is possible. For instance by the means of:

  • Hot foil stamping
  • UV-varnish and UV-spot-varnish
  • Film lamination
  • Embossing or Debossing

Can I traditionally mechanically convert MetalPaper?

Yes, all standard converting methods like die cutting, creasing, book binding are possible.
Folder gluing usually requires equipment capable of handling plastics.

Tips for designing with MetalPaper

Printing

  • Create "fire & flames" by printing combinations of yellow & magenta on silver
  • Over print "High Gloss Mirror" with yellow ink to make as much gold as you want
  • Combine silver and gold on one sheet by partially over printing with yellow
  • Over print the "metallic" MetalPaper with other metallic (spot) colours
  • Use the power of just one or two spot colours and no CMYK
  • Create metallic coloured motives by printing CMYK directly on to "High Gloss Mirror"
  • Create "normal process" colour motives by printing CMYK over opaque white
  • Print only various intensities of black for a unique retro look

Tints & tones

  • Use an air-brushed black tint to simulate human flesh tones on "High Gloss Mirror"
  • Use tints to emphasise structure, folds and creases on gold and silver coloured clothes
  • Use black tint gradations/vignettes to produce shadow effects
  • Use black tint gradations/vignettes to produce bold dramatic effects
  • Combine aforementioned tint effects on opaque white gradations/vignettes
  • Air brush bold spot colours for effect
  • Produce semi-transparent tint blocks from CMYK
  • Produce semi-transparent tint blocks from opaque white

Texts & Headlines

  • Consider reversed out texts/headlines letting the MetalPaper shine brilliantly through
  • Choose bold spot colours for text/headlines and diagrams
  • Create metallic texts/headlines using CMYK
  • Over print with metallic coloured text/headlines
  • Create pure opaque white texts/headlines
  • Over print opaque white with CMYK for process colour text headlines

Further ideas

  • Leave plenty of "white space" to enable the MetalPaper to attract attention
  • Leave little spots free of print to make catch-lights & high-lights such as eye-balls
  • Use eye-tricking patterns with rainbow MetalPaper to enhance optical illusions
  • Simulate embossing with high-build varnish
  • Use high build varnish or embossing to create a significant tactile effect
  • Print just a single spot colour on MetalPaper for effect
  • Print different "ink weights" of CMYK to achieve deferring intensity metallic effects
  • Use the mirror finish to incorporate mirrors in the design
  • Reverse out images to let the MetalPaper shine through
  • Completely print page with opaque white/CMYK leaving subtle small MetalPaper spot
  • Digitally print directly onto MetalPaper
  • Personalise MetalPaper with digital print
  • Decorative print finish: embossing, varnish (spot), laminate & hot foil block
  • and so on...
